How we reduce the risk of bushfires
Murdoch University takes preventative measures to prevent bushfires from occurring on our campuses by manually reducing fire-prone vegetation near buildings and maintaining our firebreaks in the bushland reserves.
- Familiarise yourself with information on the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) website, including advice provided on fire danger ratings during bushfire season (December to April).
- Avoid accessing bushland reserves during days of High to Extreme fire danger, very hot days and/or very windy days.
- Do not smoke near any of the bushland areas. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas around our campuses.
- Maintain awareness of emergency exits and assembly points.
- Observe signs, gates, barriers and temporary access restrictions
- Do not undertake unauthorised burning, hot work, open-flame cooking or other activities that could start a fire.
- Cultural burning and ceremonies involving smoke or flame require prior University approval and any applicable permit.
