Flexibility to learn


To enhance your learning flexibility, we offer a range of attendance modes at course level and unit level.

Course level modes

The Course level mode refers to how you complete your overall teaching and learning activities for your degree.

Face to faceTeaching and learning activities are delivered primarily face-to-face and regular on campus attendance is required.
OnlineTeaching and learning activities are delivered primarily online, with scheduled or flexible learning times.
Mixed modeTeaching and learning activities are delivered both face-to-face and online, with scheduled or flexible learning times.

Unit level modes

The Unit level mode refers to how you choose to attend a specific unit. Some units may offer one attendance option, whereas other units may offer multiple attendance options. 

Face to faceTeaching and learning activities are delivered face-to-face and regular on campus attendance is required.
Online FlexibleTeaching and learning activities are delivered online with no face-to-face requirements. You can complete your learning at a time most convenient to you.

There may be a requirement for scheduled assessments and/or examinations. If in person attendance is required, this will be identified in the Unit Information published in the Handbook.
Online scheduled Teaching and learning activities are delivered online with no face-to-face requirements. You have a requirement to attend online at specific times for scheduled activities.

Mixed modeTeaching and learning activities are delivered with a mix of face-to-face and online scheduled or online flexible requirements.

PlacementTeaching and learning activities are delivered in person on campus or at another venue to provide you with a real-life work placement experience.

Your Unit Coordinator or supervisor will communicate with you about the specific attendance requirements of your placement, and it will be identified in the Unit Information published in the Handbook.

 

Attendance requirements for international student visa holders

Course level modes: International student visa holders can enrol only in face-to-face courses.

Unit level modes: International student visa holders can enrol in an online or mixed mode offering of a unit. However, to continue to meet your visa requirements, you must undertake two-thirds of your course face to face and at least one unit face-to-face each teaching period.

Frequently asked questions

Murdoch courses are offered in Face to face, Online, and Mixed mode depending on how they are best delivered. If you are a domestic student you can apply for any mode that suits you, if it is offered for your chosen course. If you are an international student visa holder, you are able to apply for courses that are offered as Face to face.
This will be dependent on the requirements of the units you have selected within your course. Each unit has different attendance requirements, please refer to the unit guide in the Student Handbook.

If you are an international student visa holder, you must continue to meet your visa requirements, which includes taking two-thirds of your course face to face and at least one unit face-to-face each teaching period.

If you want to change your unit’s attendance mode before census, but after the self-enrolment close date, you must have approval from your Unit Coordinator. You cannot change your unit’s attendance mode after the census date.
