You can only sit a supplementary exam if you have had a supplementary grade awarded.
A new Student Assessment Support Procedure is in place for teaching periods starting from 1 January 2025. Where Supplementary Assessment is not permitted in a unit, it will be specified in the Unit Outline and apply to all students enrolled in the unit.
A student may be granted Supplementary Assessment where they have demonstrated sufficient achievement of the unit learning outcomes to warrant an additional opportunity.
- The student has attempted required assessments for the unit and for graded units, the Final Mark for the unit is between 45% and 49%
- for ungraded units, the student’s performance is close to the requirements for a pass.
The award of a supplementary grade is recommended by your unit coordinator, and the Results Committee will determine if supplementary Assessment will be offered.
You will be notified in writing of the supplementary assessment or exam arrangements by the Unit Coordinator no later than 5 University Working Days after approval by the Results Committee. If you have been offered a supplementary, your unit will have the interim grade of either SX or SA.
SX (Supplementary examination)
- is when the supplementary assessment is in the form of an examination
- SX exams will be scheduled by the Exams Office
- they are held during the standard Supplementary and Deferred exam period and Deferred exam period
- the supplementary exam timetable will normally be published one week after the release of results if not earlier.
SA (Supplementary assessment)
- is when the supplementary is in the form other than exam
- SA assessment will be scheduled by the Unit Coordinator.
A student awarded Supplementary Assessment will have a final result of either:
- a grade of Pass (P) with a mark of 50% or Ungraded Pass (UP)
- a grade of Fail (N) with the original mark or Ungraded Fail (UF)
Supplementary exam cannot be deferred. If you are unable to undertake the supplementary exam at the scheduled date and time, your Unit Coordinator will finalise your grade accordingly.
