Course overview
OnTrack Flex is a free enabling course that has been designed to prepare students for university study. In a supportive adult learning environment, you'll build the academic skills, confidence, and study strategies needed to succeed, while gaining a pathway into an undergraduate degree at Murdoch University requiring a Selection Rank of 70.
Throughout the course, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Develop effective study habits and learning strategies
- Build the academic skills and confidence needed for university study
- Connect with peers and academic staff as part of a supportive Murdoch University community
As an OnTrack Flex student, you'll complete four units that contain a range of assessment tasks, including essays, quizzes, presentations, learning portfolios, reports, and exams. Feedback is provided in response to each assessment task which you will use to guide and plan your future learning.
This program is available to Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, as well as people who have arrived in Australia under a humanitarian or refugee visa.
Flexible and Personalised Study Options
OnTrack Flex offers flexible study options to suit your circumstances. You can choose to study:
- Full-time or part-time
- On campus or online
- Elective units that align with your interests and future study goals
On-Campus Study
For each face-to-face unit you enrol in, you will have:
- A 2-hour workshop each teaching week
- A 1-hour online lecture each week
- Independent online learning activities
Class days vary depending on your campus location (Perth, Mandurah, or Rockingham).
Online Study
For each online unit you enrol in, you will have:
- Weekly tutor-facilitated discussion forums
- A 1-hour online lecture each week
- Independent learning activities and study

Course fees
This program is free for eligible domestic students, including Australian and New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents, and people who have arrived in Australia on humanitarian or refugee visas.
Prior to my university degree, I knew I needed an alternative entry pathway because of my lacklustre ATAR. OnTrack Flex was very valuable to me, as it prepared me for university academic integrity and helped with referencing, social activities, and study and assignment timetable management. Ultimately, without the prior knowledge and experience offered by OnTrack Flex, I believe I would not be in the position I am today within my university degree.

Admission requirements
To be eligible for OnTrack Flex, you must be at least 17 years and 6 months old by 1 January of the year you begin the program. You must also be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or hold a humanitarian or refugee visa.
In addition, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Have completed Year 11 and 12
- Have completed an AQF Certificate III in any field
- Have completed an AQF Certificate II in General Education for Adults, or
- Have successfully completed the OnTrack Flex readiness evaluation within the last 12 months*.
*Note: If required, access to the readiness evaluation will be provided by the Admissions team after you submit your application. Sample evaluations are not available.
Other requirements
If you are under 20 years of age and cannot provide the required supporting documentation, you will be required to complete a face-to-face Readiness Evaluation at Murdoch University's South Street campus. These evaluations are held on selected dates throughout the year, with two sessions offered before Semester 1 and one session offered before Semester 2.
English Requirements
You must meet a minimum standard in English to study at Murdoch, which for most courses can be demonstrated by providing evidence that you have completed Year 11 and 12 in Australia at any level if you are a domestic student, or through either English proficiency tests, university preparation courses, English language courses, previous tertiary study or vocational education.
Other Requirements
Students under 20 years of age will be required to attend a prearranged face-to-face Readiness Evaluation session at the Murdoch South Street campus if they are unable to provide supporting documentation. Prearranged face-to-face readiness evaluations are conducted on specified dates: There will be one date preceding Semester 2, and two dates preceding Semester 1.Plan your course
