Clinical Guidelines update for Immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia
IMHA and thromboembolic disease
Visiting Emergency and Critical Care specialist Assistant Professor Rob Goggs from Cornell University (New York) joined us in June 2019 to deliver this exciting seminar. Dr Goggs has spearheaded several recent international consensus guidelines and shared his clinical application of the new recommendations. Dr Claus gave a brief overview of the new capabilities for therapeutic plasma exchange at The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University.
The seminar is suitable for specialists and residents/interns in the fields of Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Oncology. The seminar may also interest Soft Tissue surgeons who are interested in thromboembolic complications and anticoagulation. It is also suitable for any practicing clinician who would like to stay at the cutting edge of treatment.

Topics covered
Treatment of canine immune mediated haemolytic anaemia: Case-based application of the ACVIM guidelines
The ACVIM published consensus guidelines on the diagnosis and management of IMHA in early 2019. This session will review these guidelines and provide real-world illustrations of the application of these recommendations using a case-based format.
Learning objective 1: Describe how to use the consensus guidelines to diagnose IMHA
Learning objective 2: Describe how to use the consensus guidelines to manage IMHA
Antithrombotic therapies: Case-based application of the ACVECC CURATIVE guidelines
In January 2019 the ACVECC CURATIVE guidelines were published. This session will explore the application of these guidelines to the management of commonly encountered clinical thromboembolic scenarios.
Learning objective 1: Describe how to use the consensus guidelines to guide the management of dogs with thrombosis
Learning objective 2: Describe how to use the consensus guidelines to guide the management of cats with thrombosis
Therapeutic Plasma Exchange as treatment of immune-mediated diseases
This presentation will introduce the logistics of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) and cover the evidence behind this extracorporeal technique as a treatment for different immune-mediated diseases including myasthenia gravis, IMHA, and IMT.
