We are losing our Carnaby’s cockatoos

These intelligent, social, long-lived birds exist only in southwest Western Australia. They are an iconic species in the urban landscape, visiting backyards, school grounds and public open spaces, transfixing people with their haunting cries. Out of all our urban wildlife, they are perhaps the most well-loved.

But unless something changes, and fast, they are heading to extinction within decades.
