Engaging with the community

The School of Nursing at Murdoch University is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment. Our academic and professional staff, students and industry partners, represent a wide range of backgrounds and experiences that enhance the richness of our learning community. The School of Nursing is committed to lifelong learning and actively supports the empowerment of its student body.

Situated across both the Perth and Mandurah campuses, the School of Nursing deeply values its connection with the Whadjuk and Binjareb Noongar people of our local community. We are dedicated to ensuring our nursing curriculum reflects the health and wellbeing needs of Australia’s First Nations peoples and have collaborated with the School of Indigenous Knowledges to develop a new unit focused on First Nations Peoples’ Health. This partnership enhances the nursing curriculum, emphasising culturally competent care and integrating Indigenous expertise, ultimately preparing nursing students to deliver high-quality, culturally appropriate healthcare in Western Australia.

The School of Nursing works closely with healthcare partners to give undergraduate nursing students real world experience through high quality clinical placements. These placements give students the chance to build skills in diverse settings with plenty of support. The school also partners with rural and remote healthcare organisations, offering students a chance to understand the unique challenges in these areas, including placements with the Royal Flying Doctors. We have partnership programs with allowing students to do all their placements in one place. One unique program in Western Australia is “Moorditj Kaartdijin, Moorditj Warlang,” an Indigenous Clinical Placement Partnership with Fiona Stanley Hospital. This program recognises the important role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples working in health, and helps address the wellbeing of Australia’s First Peoples.

Our postgraduate and higher degree by research students join us from all corners of the globe, forming a vibrant global community that enriches our School. They bring unique insights shaped by diverse experiences and careers around the world and infuse our research culture with perspectives gathered through their own exciting projects. This international network fosters collaboration, innovation, and a truly global outlook on the future of nursing and healthcare.

Our diverse community connections make the School of Nursing a dynamic environment. We look forward to your joining us.
